There are currently over 400 young people between the ages of 14 and 21 who are in the foster care system in South Hampton Roads. These children have been placed in foster care by the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court, often as a result of neglect or abuse on the part of their family caretaker.
By the time these children reach their teen years it is unlikely that they will be adopted or successfully reunited with their birth families. Research has also shown that teens with usable life and work skills and strong community support can beat these odds.
These children need and deserve the kinds of educational and life experiences that will prepare them for success and independence. The Together We Can Foundation is a non-profit agency dedicated to successful transitions for teens in foster care. But, as our name implies, the only way we can succeed is if we all work together.
